Where can I cut my own Christmas tree in Ohio?

Short answer: We found no public forest in Ohio that sells a Christmas tree permit.

Wayne National Forest (Ohio's only national forest) does not list a Christmas tree permit. Its official permits page covers firewood, forest-product, ginseng and special-use permits only, and it has no Christmas tree listing on Recreation.gov (checked Oct 22, 2026).
Ohio state forests: cutting or removing any tree is not allowed without written permission from the ODNR Division of Forestry (Ohio Administrative Code 1501:3-2-05).

Your best bet: a choose-and-cut tree farm

Many private tree farms let you walk the rows, pick a tree and cut it yourself. The state growers' association lists farms near you.
